Newly hired Pacers GM, JC0127, made some daring moves to prepare for the future starting now!
With less than 3 months, the Pacers have finally found the right GM of choice. The Pacers have been stuck at the bottom of the league but the new GM, JC0127 accepted the challenge. "Our team goal is still trying to challenge for the 8th spot in the East by the end of the season." As of now, the Pacers are standing only within 3 to 4 games behind the 8th seed in the East. JC0127 figured why not the team try to re-load in 2011 free agency period while still staying competitive in 2011 season? So...in just a short period of time, he figured out 3 trades to create massive cap space for 2011 offseason while still capturing some talents who can help the Pacers win now. Let's make an analysis of each the GM's moves:
1st trade: (With Atlanta)
Out goes:
DaJuan Blair
Paul George
Al Thornton
Brandon Rush
2011 2nd round pick (Indiana)
Samardo Samuels
In comes:
Jamal Crawford
Jeff Teague
Maurice Evans
Josh Powell
This trade is simply trying to cut some salaries by absorbing a big contract since Pacers still had cap space by that time, it would not hurt to acquire a borderline all-star in Jamal Crawford, rather than wait for the youngsters to flourish in 3 to 5 years. "We are trying to get a ticket for Jamal Crawford to play in the Eastern All-star squad this year."
2nd trade: (With Oklahoma City Thunder)
Out goes:
Michael Beasley
Tyler Hansbrough
Ronny Turiaf
Quentin Richardson
In comes:
Jeff Green
Nenad Krstic
Morris Peterson
Thunders 2011 2nd Round Pick
This trade is quite even in my opinion due to the fact that the Pacers still want to cut long-term committed salaries.
3rd trade: (With Dallas Mavericks)
Out goes:
Morris Peterson
Nenad Krstic
Jermaine O'Neal
Jeff Teague
Jeff Green
In comes:
Glen Davis
Danny Green
Tyson Chandler
Caron Butler
2nd rounder 2011 Dal
This trade helped Pacers reaching their ultimate goal and really allows Gilbert Arenas to prove his leadership on the Pacers team while acquiring his ex-teammate in Caron Butler, a great low-post presence, even though undersized, in Glen Davis and a defensive threat in Tyson Chandler.
All these trades allow the Pacers to save up to $40millions should they decide not to resign any of the players, however, it's most likely there will be 3 to 4 players who they acquired will stay on the team beyond 2011, depending on their performance.
Their prime target in 2011 free agency period could be (not in specific order): Carmelo Anthony, Tim Duncan, Yao Ming, Tony Parker, Zach Randolph but rumors around the league suggesting that Gilbert Arenas is really a trouble maker and could possibly turn into a player like Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis or Allen Iverson, as referred to a "team cancer" due to the fact that Gilbert Arenas just came off from series of injury and the gun incident from last year.
