The troubled Allen Iverson had contemplated retirement several times over the past few years. However, General Manager Brad Jasper of the Washignton Wizards saw something in Iverson that nobody else did. Jasper decided to go out in the RSSA's offseason and pay Iverson a totaled 10 million dollars to come in and start as the starting shooting guard for the young Wizards. Iverson had since begun to work hard in the gym trying to get himself back into game-shape. "I knew that this team needed me to step and be the scorer, so I put in the work." Iverson surely did put in the work, as he managed to find a way to torch the JET, Jason Terry, for 36 points on opening night. The Wizards needed every point that the oft-troubled guard could score.
Iverson hopes to abandon the thuggish ways and win a championship in Washington
They barely escaped against a formidable opponent in the Mavericks. The final score of the game was 102 to 98, but the game wasn't close until the closing minutes when the Mavericks put on one hell of a run in the fourth quarter. Iverson said after the game that knew he was back officially, "It felt good being out there, I'm officially back. This team is going to be like my 76ers team of the early 2000's. I'm going to win myself a title. I think I have the supporting cast to do it too. Dwight and Rondo are great players."
In other notes on the game, Dwight Howard has dislocated his index finger and is day to day. Howard had a monster night collecting 10 boards and scoring a monsterous 31 points. Star Point Guard Rajon Rondo collected in 4 steals and had 11 assists to go along with his 12 points. "I'm content with that, but I'd like to exploit their defense a little more and get some easy buckets," Rondo said after the game.
Is Rondo the perfect General for this Offense?
The Wizards play the Atlanta Hawks and the New Jersey Nets on the upcoming trip and it will be interesting to see how Paul Pierce responds to the treatment he received in Washington, being brought in one day and shipped out two days later.
