AP:
The 2010 Washington Wizards are hoping that they can do something that has never been done; go from winning the draft lottery to winning the NBA Championship in one year. That first pick, however, is not on the team anymore. John Wall was recently traded to the Boston Celtics in a massive deal that brought in starting Point Guard, Rajon Rondo. Rondo, who is only 24, is expected to be the starter for the Wizards on opening night tomorrow pending any last minute deals by General Manager Brad Jasper."Rondo is a great player, but we have multiple holes to fill, don't expect anybody but Dwight to be here all year and beyond."
Rajon Rondo stands to do big things in Washington, if he stays!
Trade-happy Jasper has sent many players a packing in his short tenure in Washington but has seemed to slow down a bit in the recent days, as many GM's are not giving him the value he feels necessary for star players. He has been offered Luis Scola and Marcus Thornton for a player who will we only call "Superman". These offers have gotten Jasper very frustrated and have made him question just staying with Dwight, Haslem, Pietrus, Iverson and Rondo. "We have a hole at the 3 right now, Mickael is a great player but he doesn't satisfy what we really want at the 3. We want him to stay on as a bench player but it's a tough find." Jasper said about the team.
Come on guys! Dwight is easily more valuable than that!
With the recent acquisition of Ricky Rubio, if accepted by the league's committee, Rondo becomes expendable in the eyes of Jasper. "I've been a huge fan of Rubio after witnessing his spectacular run in the Olympics as a 17 year old a few years back." Rubio is a star overseas but has yet to sign a contract over here in the National Basketball Association. The feeling was that he wasn't going to sign in the Minnesota Program due to their not being a big enough city, but hey Ricky, What about the Nation's Capital?
The future is bright in Washington with Ricky!
This Wizards team is very talented, but does it have what it takes to make the playoffs in the stacked Eastern Conference, and even more stacked Southeast Division. There are 3 teams ahead of the Wizards on the recent Power Rankings in their own division, yet alone conference. The Wizards are standing just outside of the top 10, at 11, which pleases Jasper. "It's nice to be ranked highly, but the true goal is to be number 1."
General Manger Jasper hard at work on trades.
