I didnt read anything but the 1st couple posts but I will say this, I feel that basically everything should be done in the off-season UNLESS you make an allstar team. I feel if you make an allstar team u should b bumped up a point or 2 at the break. It is a big accomplishment to make it and deserve some kind of reward since this isnt real life and these players arent making real $ where in contracts u make some extra cash if u make an allstar team or win it all or accomplish certain feats like avg a double double score 25+ a game those sorts of things. Overall tho I feel everything else should be done in the offseason right after the season ends so we know where everyone stands going into trading and FA signing

Gonna ignore Philly except to say Brad has told me he feels everything that's gone wrong in the league is his fault. I told him I think he shouldn't worry about it, b/c his real-life got in the way. Real-Life always takes precedent, and I understand that completely. That's just my take on this stuff. I really have just been the middle-man in the league, but needed to be an Admin to have the capabilities to adjust all the stuff on the board that I do. No one ever PM'd me asking "hey what's up with Brad", at which point I would have said, "try to ask him, I know no more than you, and some people here know him better than me in fact."
I think it's rubbish you keep blaming everything on me, and it really kills the fun of the league for me, so knock it off. It's pointless crap over a sim league for god's sake! If you take this league that seriously and think we "wasted lives", maybe you should find a more serious league or something. I dunno. Tired of being your scape-goat, so shut up about it, please.
As for the ratings, one method that usually works well is every team gets to send in 3 players for consideration to the staff. The staff then combines all of those in a post, and start putting up suggestions. We average out the suggestions more or less, have some discussions back and forth. We also look through every team ourselves and pick out players we think deserve decreases, as well as players outside of the 3 suggested players that we think deserve increases. Then we hash them out and average them as well.
The problem with "only 2 increases per team no matter what," as DET suggested, is some teams are built young with a lot of developing, improving players, while other teams are built older and more "competitive" but have players that are older, and will decline. It's not realistic at all to say every team has 2, and only 2, players that need increased each year. Just doesn't make sense IMO. People are making trades in this league based on what they think of guys IRL, and assuming that if the players improve like they think they will, they will get increases. That's how this league has always been intended to run, as far as I am aware.
The % idea is interesting, but I don't think it is wise to ignore players who maybe improve their points by 15%, their boards by 20%, their blocks by 25%, and their FG% by say 5%. That could be an improvement from a top 100-150ish player to a top 50 player, and your formula would ignore them. The problem you are trying to avoid is a valid one, I just think with our set-up (every team suggests 3 players from their team; the admins look through every single team and find more that could need increased, and any decrease guys; and then the discussion by 7 or 8 staff members on the rating changes) ends up making it pretty hard to be that subjective.
Just some more food for thought.

better suggestion....we could all stop blaming each other like 5 year olds, and have no ratings boosts, cause thats how the league should be. period the end.

You don't think ratings should ever change? I'd quit the league plain and simple.

I want to say something real quick b/c u are contradicting yourself New York. You say that we need to increase the ratings for the young players and decrease the ratings for the aging players but you were saying that Jason Kidd's rating should increase to the low 80s even though he is an aging veteran whose skills are on the decline.
I'm not arguing about this other stuff anymore but this is about the 3rd post that I've caught you contradicting yourself.

No, that was a generalization, that some young players get better, and some old players get worse.
My stance on Kidd this whole time has been specific to him, in that he is simply better than that rating. Heck, I think Yahoo had him ranked 5th best player, statistically, in their system last season.
Now I am NOT IN ANY WAY, asking he be rated like a 90 or anything close. I'm just saying, he's better than a 77.
Again, you're sort of twisting my words here. Generally, young players get better and deserve increases, and old players get worse at some point, and deserve decreases.
Separately, Kidd's rating was just messed up to start with. I'd rather get guys like that fixed, that's the main thing. There are a lot more out there other than Kidd. Wesley Matthews is another example. I don't really have time to look through every player right now but I know there were others I tried getting changed before but we had shut down the Ratings Changes by that point.

Yeah I thought Kidd should have been closer to a 83. And that was one of my main reasons to hating that trade that went down between kidd and curry. Kidd even tho he is older, is still producing at a relatively high level and is worth WAY more than a useless Curry even tho he is an expiring

Weird. The league is a sim league because it simulates real life. I always assume the purpose of ratings changes is to keep it close to real-life, as the game isn't going to do that.

Knicks, u see more people voting for offseason, it's for a reason. I came on strong but a lot of people see my point of view on it.
How can you simulate real life when the NBA season hasn't begun yet? Respect people's opinions and leave it alone.

I am completely respecting people's opinions. Don't know what you've seen me do that you think is disrespecting people.
In fact if you could read, I've explicitly said that if the vote comes up to favor Offseason, I will go with it, no problem. I'm allowed to have and voice my opinions, but that doesn't mean I'm going to flip out if people disagree. Just discussing things here man, no big deal.
Also, I've said again and again, even you agree there are ratings messed up in the league, correct? My comment on simulating real life is to fix those types of things that a lot of us already agree are off, then we'll continue doing it whenever the other ratings changes are.
You have an uncanny ability to misunderstand what I mean. Anyway, hope that cleared it up.
